WBW: 5 Mantras For The New Year
Hello friends! I hope your 2021 was filled with everything your heart desired. If not, today is a new day!
This Wednesday we are going to talk about mantras and positive psychology. "Mantra" has become so mainstream but do you actually know what it is or why we have them?
What is a mantra?
A mantra is a word, phrase, affirmation or even sound to aid in meditation and help guide your thoughts to achieve a particular goal, task or intention. Think of this as planting the seed, nurturing it (by repeating the phrase/affirmation/practice) and watch it grow and manifest. This article is a great source for in-depth information.
The power of positivity
The main objective with positive psychology is to nurture and grow your strengths, instead of channeling so much energy into correcting shortcomings. Remember, where your attention goes, your energy flows.
One thing I am working on in 2022 is to be aware of self-sabotaging patterns like diminishing speech towards myself (and others) and apologizing language. The intention here is to channel more energy towards what feels good and positive in my life (including thoughts and what I say), instead of constantly beating myself up. This negative self talk has scared me away from setting goals and dreams, trying new things, letting go of things that were unhealthy for me and has even led me into a depressive state. That is no way to live this one short life!
Here are a few mantras you might like to invite into your life for 2022 as you set your goals and intentions for the new year. Enjoy!
I deserve beautiful, harmonious and loving relationships in every facet of my life
Take stock of the relationships you have in your life. If you feel like you are in constant battle with people (work colleagues, romantic interests, family, friendships), this is a beautiful mantra to invite into your life.
I stop resisting and accept the things I cannot change
As the Buddha acknowledges, "all suffering is resistance." A mantra to help you let go of the need to control everything may be what you need.
Not too little, not too much (or the art of Lagom)
Be happy with the way things are, because what you already have is enough
I am worthy, I am enough
Because you are worthy, and you are enough, just as you are
I forgive, heal and release everything that consciously or unconsciously could delay or block the evolution of my being
(mantra originally by Mario Liani) This is a great mantra that circles back to that self-sabotage talk. What from the past, or what talk do you have of the future, is holding you back from growth? What needs to be forgiven? Released?
Happy New Year!
